The High Commission of India Nairobi on Sunday held an inaugural Viksit Bharat Run to celebrate India’s growth journey.
The run brought together more than 250 participants in a show of unity and commitment to India’s development journey.
The five-kilometer walk-a-thon and run drew participants from across the country, including youth, women, children, sports personalities, government representatives, and guests from the Kenya Forest Service.
Participants turned out in bright white T-shirts and capes, giving the event a unified look.
The ground was filled with energy as families, children, and youth joined hands with sports personalities and officials.
Children ran with excitement alongside adults, their laughter blending with cheers and applause, adding to the high spirits that defined the morning.
The sea of white moving along the five-kilometer route symbolized solidarity and a shared commitment to India’s development journey.
The Acting High Commissioner of India in Kenya Sushil Prasad hailed the success of the inaugural Viksit Bharat Run.
Prasad said the run was dedicated to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, coinciding with the centenary of the country’s independence.
“In the last couple of decades, we have achieved great feats in all fields, including economic development. Our Prime Minister has taken a pledge that by 2047, India will be a developed country and we are working towards it,” the Acting High Commissioner said.
The run did not declare any winners, however, he underscored it’s focus on community participation.
“The outcome is to grow together as a community and also become part of the growth journey of India,” he added.

He noted that India’s progress also creates opportunities for its partner countries in the Global South, including Kenya.
Prasad said that since Kenya’s independence in 1963, India has been sharing their technological advancements in the form of projects and scholarships.
According to him, when the two countries grow together, it benefits the people of both countries.
He stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Kenya.
