Kenya and Uganda reaffirmed their strong ties during the official opening of a new sanctuary at the Church of Uganda in Kapchorwa, Uganda.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen represented President William Ruto in the event that also marked the 10th anniversary of Bishop Paul Kiptoo Masaba’s episcopal ministry in the Diocese of Sebei.

President Ruto helped support the construction of the church together with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni.

President Museveni was represented by the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament Anitah Among.

The ceremony doubled as a thanksgiving celebration for Bishop Masaba’s decade of service.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of a vehicle, donated by President Ruto, to the bishop in recognition of his dedication to the Church and community.

“We congratulate Masaba on marking 10 years of faithful service to the Church, and extend our best wishes as he continues leading the flock with love, wisdom and dedication. We also commend the church for the completion of the new sanctuary and wish them every blessing as they worship and serve. Kenya and Uganda share a common destiny and heritage,” Murkomen said.

The event provided a platform to reaffirm bilateral commitments between the two nations.

The CS emphasised ongoing efforts to enhance cross-border security, support peacekeeping initiatives, boost trade, and strengthen socio-economic cooperation.

CS Murkomen said these efforts follow the Memoranda of Understanding signed by the two presidents in July, aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.

The Kenyan team included Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Senator Allan Chesang of Trans Nzoia, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, and former Trans Nzoia Senator Michael Mbito, among other leaders.

"He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near." —Ephesians 2:17," Murkomen said.
