Safina Party has unveiled Florence Atieno, popularly known as Atis Dollar, as its new National Women Coordinator in a move party leader Jimi Wanjigi described as a major boost to the party’s growing momentum.
Atieno, who defected from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), was introduced on Thursday at a colurful event held at Kwacha House, Westlands, Nairobi, just a week after Wanjigi formally assumed leadership of Safina.
Her entry, Wanjigi said, symbolises the confidence women leaders are placing in Safina as the political home for Kenya’s “economic liberation.”
“We are excited to welcome Florence into Safina. Her work and skills are well recognised, and together we will build a nation that truly addresses the unique needs of women,” Wanjigi said.
Florence was accompanied by women coordinators from 17 constituencies alongside other Nairobi Women who pledged to join her in strengthening women’s leadership within the party and amplifying the role of women in shaping Kenya’s political and economic future
Speaking after her election, Florence said, “This is a new dawn for women in politics. I am ready to mobilise, empower, and champion the voices of women across Kenya. Together, we will ensure that women are not just participants but decision-makers in shaping our nation’s destiny.”
Florence, a long-time human rights defender who has previously endured unconstitutional detention, pledged to mobilise women across the country into the Safina movement.
“We are gathered here from 17 constituencies. Women are the backbone of our families and the strength of our communities. Yet we face rising food prices, lack of jobs, and the daily struggle to provide for our children, all because of mismanagement of our country’s resources,” she said.
“I have joined Safina because it recognises women’s suffering, youth aspirations, and the urgent need for an economic revolution. As your National Women Coordinator, I call on you to join me in Safina, not just for me, but for yourself, your children, and the future of Kenya.”

Known for her outspoken stance and passion for justice, Florence added, “I stand for justice and economic empowerment. Women have the power to change communities, and Safina Party is giving us that platform.”
Safina Deputy Party Leader Willis Otieno praised Atieno’s defection, describing it as the beginning of “radical change” in Kenya’s politics.
“Florence represents the beginning of the radical change we want for this country, especially in our economy. Kenya has suffered for far too long, but Safina is here to lead the change,” he said.
Otieno stressed that the party’s mission is to ensure dignity, jobs, quality healthcare, education, and accountable policing.
“When we take the wheel, local leaders, even the OCPD, will answer to the people, not operate above the law. Order will come from the people down, not imposed from above,” he said.
The party also reaffirmed its F.I.S.T. Agenda—Debt Rebellion, Universal Healthcare, Free Education, Tax Relief, and a Domestic Borrowing Ban—as the foundation of its economic revolution blueprint.
Addressing women directly, Wanjingi said: “To the mothers of Nairobi: I greet you with respect. You are the backbone of this city, from the formal sector to the markets, across every tribe and community. Mothers are the true voice of our nation. Real change is needed, and Safina is that change.”
Wanjigi also outlined Safina’s economic agenda, pledging to reject “odious debts,” guarantee universal healthcare, deliver free primary and secondary education, reduce VAT from 16 to 5 per cent, and halt domestic borrowing.
