Police in Migori County are investigating two separate gun attacks reported over the weekend, one of which left a 12-year-old girl injured.

The girl was shot in the right leg while sleeping at her family’s home in Sare Estate, Aweondo Town, in the early hours of Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Her father told police he was woken by gunshots outside the house and rushed to find his daughter bleeding and crying in bed.

Investigators said six bullet holes were found on the door of the house. Five spent cartridges and three bullet heads were recovered at the scene. The motive for the attack is still unclear.

The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was admitted in stable condition. Police say they are pursuing the gunmen, who remain at large.

In a separate incident in Rongo, also in Migori County, gunmen assaulted a motorist in the Kitere area on Saturday night.

The victim said his car was blocked by a double-cabin vehicle before four men armed with walking sticks confronted him, accusing him of being a nuisance in the area.

The attackers allegedly beat him up and fired shots in the air to disperse locals who had responded to his alarm. They then sped off, leaving him with injuries.

Police recovered a 9mm cartridge at the scene, which has been sent for ballistic analysis.

The motorist was treated at a local hospital and discharged in stable condition.

Police say investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
