Traffic on Outering Road in Embakasi was disrupted on Sunday after a vehicle veered off an elevated section near Donholm and plunged several metres down.

The car landed on the lower stretch of the road, blocking part of the carriageway and causing heavy snarl-ups.

Preliminary reports by witnesses indicate that the driver of the vehicle died on the spot, but the authorities were yet to confirm by press time.

Police and rescue teams were quickly deployed to the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.

Details on injuries or casualties had not been confirmed by press time.

It remains unclear what caused Sunday’s crash, though police confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The accident came just two days after a separate collision on Thika Road left at least 13 people nursing injuries.

That Friday morning, two public service vehicles travelling in opposite directions collided head-on.

Witnesses said one matatu was headed towards Thika, while the other was on its way to Nairobi when they rammed into each other, trapping several passengers in the wreckage.

Preliminary reports indicated the crash occurred after one of the drivers swerved suddenly to avoid hitting a donkey laden with water jerrycans.
