Uganda has been confirmed as the host of the 2025 East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) inter-parliamentary games, scheduled to take place from December 5-17.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Munyonyo, Uganda, during the meeting of Speakers and Presiding Officers of National Legislatures of EAC member states.

It was held alongside the 11th UNESCO African Week and the 9th Africa Engineering Conference.

Organisers said the games will bring together participating teams from all EAC member states, with the EAC secretariat coordinating preparations.

A Joint committee is expected to begin meetings next month to finalise logistics, while Uganda has pledged to provide training facilities and ensure timely arrival of delegations.

East African Legislative Assembly Speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana welcomed the announcement, saying the games will strengthen regional unity.

“Let’s rotate such forums and events across our capitals, Kigali, Congo, South Sudan, Dar es Salaam, and Burundi. Our young people are our future, and sports remain a unifying factor in building the East African Community,” he said.

Uganda’s National Assembly Speaker Anita Among also pledged full support for the games, noting that hosting the regional sports festival will not only promote talent but also showcase Uganda’s commitment to regional integration.

The games, which feature athletics, football, netball, volleyball, tug-of-war, walk races, golf, basketball and other disciplines, are expected to attract thousands of participants and fans from across the region.

The 2025 edition will bring together the eight member states, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The games, organised annually by EALA and hosted on a rotational basis, plays a pivotal role in fostering interaction between EALA members, national parliamentarians and citizens of East Africa

The last edition was held under the theme “EAC @25, Enhancing Integration through Inter-Parliamentary Games” in Mombasa, Kenya.
