There was drama when suspects were lynched in a botched
attack on a shop in Musanda, Mumias, Kakamega County.
Two others managed to escape the Tuesday morning drama,
police said.
A shop attendant was seriously injured in the
attack. He resisted the attack.
He raised an alarm alerting locals, who responded and killed
the two.
The injured man was rushed to the hospital in stable
condition, police said. The bodies were moved to the mortuary.
The area has been experiencing a rise in cases of mob
lynching in a worrying trend.
Police want suspects to surrender for processing and
possible prosecution. On Sunday, two other suspects were lynched in Butula,
Busia County, in a dramatic attack.
A gang had earlier attacked mourners on a vigil at a funeral
event and left at least five people with injuries.
It was then that villagers ganged up and pursued the two,
identified as Kevin Nyongesa, 20 and Patrick Wangalibo, 23, before stoning them
to death.
They then dumped the bodies on the Bumala-Butula Road as a
show and warning to other gang members who have been terrorising mourners in
the similar way in the area.
Police were informed and moved the bodies to the mortuary
for autopsy.
Police in the area warned against mob lynching and demanded that
suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution.
Such cases have been on the rise in villages and other urban
areas amid efforts to address the trend.
Police want suspects to be surrounded by authorities for
processing.
A campaign is being run in the area to address the menace.
