A middle-aged man has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Kenol Law Courts after being found guilty of threatening to kill.

Lawrence Ndung’u Wambui appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga on Wednesday, September 17, where he faced charges of threatening to kill.

The court heard that on August 30, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m., the complainant, Monica Wanjiru Kariuki, was attacked by the accused as she was returning home from her job at Diamond Bar and Restaurant in Saba Saba town.

The complainant had also received death threats from the accused.

The accused, who was known to the victim, allegedly assaulted her before pointing a knife at her and threatening to take her life.

Monica managed to escape and, in fear, sought refuge in a nearby plot, hiding in a toilet for about 20 minutes before knocking on the door of her friend, Dennis, a tenant in the compound.

Dennis reportedly saw the accused outside the gate before locking it and securing Monica in his residence for the night.

The following morning, the complainant reported the incident at Saba Saba police station.

Later that day, at around 1 p.m., the accused allegedly went to her workplace as a patron.

Monica alerted her boss to his presence, and he was immediately apprehended and taken to Saba Saba police station.

During the proceedings, the prosecution requested a strict custodial sentence, noting that the accused was a repeat offender with previous convictions for stealing and housebreaking at the Kenol Law Courts.

The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea of guilt.

In mitigation, he asked the court for forgiveness.

However, Magistrate Nyaga ruled that he needed to learn a lesson and sentenced him to two years in prison.

The court further granted him the right to appeal the ruling within 14 days.
