The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced plans to revoke the licenses of at least 42 television stations across the country.
In a gazette notice issued by CA Director General David Mugonyi, the revocations are set to take effect within seven days.
The notice states that all resources owned by the affected stations will revert to the authority once the licenses are revoked.
Following the revocation, the stations will no longer be permitted to operate or provide broadcasting services.
“Notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act (Cap. 411), that the Communications Authority of Kenya shall revoke the postal licences of the listed service providers within seven (7) days from the date of this Gazette Notice. Upon revocation of the licences, the licensees shall not be authorised to operate and provide the services,” the notice reads.
This directive comes approximately five months after the Communications Authority of Kenya shut down over 58 television stations.
