Police arrest robbery suspect, seize bhang in Mtwapa

Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi county, have arrested a man linked to a robbery with violence incident and seized rolls of bhang during an early morning operation.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Mtwapa police station received a distress call at around 5am Friday reporting a violent robbery in the township.

Acting on information from members of the public, the officers swiftly launched an operation in the Kandara area.

They stormed a residence believed to be occupied by the suspect.

A search of the house led to the recovery of a mobile phone allegedly stolen from the victim during the robbery.

In addition, police discovered eleven rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending formal charges, was taken into custody without incident.

He is expected to face charges of robbery with violence and possession of narcotic drugs. Police said samples of the seized substance would be sent to the Government Chemist for further analysis.

In a statement on X, NPS commended residents for providing timely information that aided in the arrest.

“We commend the Mtwapa community for their cooperation,” the Service said.

“We urge the public to continue reporting suspicious activity as we remain committed to fighting crime and curbing the spread of narcotics, which pose a serious threat to the wellbeing of Kenyans.”

The suspect remains in custody at Mtwapa Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.
