Nine aspirants have expressed interest in contesting for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the upcoming Baringo senatorial by-election.
With just 10 days to go before the UDA nominations, candidates are making last-minute efforts to win over voters and secure the party ticket.
The Baringo senatorial nomination, scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, has attracted nine candidates seeking to fill the seat left vacant following the death of William Cheptumo in February.
"First of all, there are less than 10 days left before we vote in the nomination. Personally, I’m well prepared, and I’m not prepared alone; I have the people behind me," Kiprono Chemitei said.
The nine candidates eyeing the UDA ticket include Kiprono Chemitei, Wycliffe Kipsang, Daniel Kipto, Reuben Chepsongol, Evans Mudulel, Joseph Cheruto, Silas Tochim, Isaac Kirikmet, and Linus Kamkaket.
According to the party, the nomination will be conducted electronically, unlike previous nominations that were done manually.
However, some candidates say they have not yet been informed of the exact voting method.
"We are well prepared, we are waiting for our nominations. We know the party is well prepared. The party has a National Elections Board, and it has always been prepared," another candidate said.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced last month that the by-election for the senatorial seat will be held on November 27, 2025.
The Baringo by-election is expected to draw significant political attention, given the county’s strategic importance in the Rift Valley region.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured Baringo residents that the UDA nomination process will be free and fair.
The DP stated that the ruling party will ensure the will of the people is upheld during the primaries.
"I humbly request you to support UDA's candidates during the by-elections. I assure you the nomination will be free and fair, and I will fully support the winners so we can retain the seat," the DP said.
