Why ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta is trending

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who served for two terms between 2013 and 2022 is once again the talk of town.

This comes even as he originally cut ties with social media over unending attacks against him.

This time however, his name has topped the trending list of X especially after reports emerged claiming that he plans to handover the leadership of the Jubilee party to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Matiang’i is among leaders who have publicly declared their presidential ambitions in the 2027 general elections.

Some dailies said it is the reason Uhuru called for a Special National Delegates Convention (NDC).

While details of the agenda remain unclear, the NDC is set for September 26, 2025, at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi.

The convention, convened by party leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will commence at 8 am and is expected to be a significant milestone in Jubilee’s bid to rebuild and regain momentum.

Following the reports Kenyans on social media made their feelings known about the topic, with some approving the move, while others opposed it.

"Political commentators have gone on an overdrive coming up with different theories and speculations around the latest rumour....that Uhuru Kenyatta is preparing to hand over Jubilee Party to Dr. Fred Matiang’i during the upcoming delegates meeting to be held on 26th this month," Owino Onyango said.

"Uhuru Kenyatta has done the honorable thing by handing over Jubilee party to Matiang’i. Kenya mbele, let's get it done now," Barack said.

Eliud added, "President Uhuru Kenyatta maybe had some foresight. Could it be only the military service can bring back sanity and efficiency, where cartels and corruption have taken root in the Kenya public service? A case study of NMS takeover of Nairobi County and the Kenya Meat Commission."

"Ruto’s debt will be almost thrice Uhuru Kenyatta’s if given second term. It’s now 3.5T just in 3 years," Kibet said.

"Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to hand over the Jubilee Party to Fred Matiang’i on 26th of September 2025. The vehicle Matiang’i will use to run for presidency in 2027," Karanja added.
