A police officer attached to an MP has been arrested after misplacing his firearm at a popular entertainment spot in Eldoret City.
According to a police report, the officer had gone to Timba Xo Club with two friends, where they spent hours drinking. At around 11 p.m. he realised that his Beretta pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, was missing.
“The officer has been placed in custody at Sukunanga Police Station as investigations into the matter are underway,” the report stated.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the arrest, saying detectives were pursuing leads to recover the missing weapon.
DCI officers from Kesses sub-county have already visited the club and reviewed CCTV footage in an effort to trace what happened. Sources indicated that the disappearance triggered a frantic search inside the premises when the loss was first reported.
The club, which is linked to a powerful MP from the region, is one of Eldoret’s busiest entertainment joints and attracts large crowds of revellers.
Mwanthi assured the public that security agencies were doing everything possible to recover the firearm.
“All efforts to trace the missing firearm are underway, and we urge members of the public with any information to assist the security agencies,” he said.
