President William Ruto’s allies in Ukambani have poured cold water on the Opposition’s chances of winning the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers said the Opposition is too disjointed and internally conflicted to pose any serious challenge to the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
Led by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Organising Secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, the leaders pointed to ongoing disputes within the Opposition ranks—particularly surrounding the appointment of former UNCTAD Secretary-General Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi as Opposition spokesperson—as a clear sign of looming disunity.
“They cannot agree among themselves on very simple things. What will happen when it comes to picking a flag bearer?” Kawaya asked during a boda boda empowerment drive in Mbooni, Makueni County.
Kawaya predicted an easy victory for President Ruto in 2027, saying the Opposition’s only contribution to the political landscape was sowing division.
“The only thing they are good at is dividing Kenyans. What else can they possibly offer?” he added.
Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule, and Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai, who echoed his sentiments and called on the Kamba community to throw its weight behind Ruto ahead of the next election, accompanied Kawaya.
The leaders warned Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he risks betrayal from his current political allies, urging him to reconsider his partnerships.
“When they were in government, they did not call us cousins. What has changed now that they are suddenly interested in Ukambani?” posed MP Kyule, suggesting the region was overlooked by key Opposition figures in the past.

Mutinda criticised the Opposition for alleged infighting, claiming that the divisions are already evident despite the alliance not having formally launched its campaign structure.
“They are already fighting over a small position. How will they agree on who becomes the presidential candidate?” she asked.
Recent reports indicate cracks in the emerging United Opposition, particularly over the appointment of Dr. Kituyi as spokesperson — a move reportedly rejected by Democracy for the Citizens (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala.
The Opposition, spearheaded by Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is expected to unveil its official coalition name, symbol, and slogan in the coming days.
