The driver of a public service vehicle that went viral on social media over stunts pulled by a person believed to be part of its crew has been arrested.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the driver was arrested and charged after members of the public raised concerns over the way it was also being driven.

The authority said the driver was charged for various traffic offenses and granted a Sh100,000 cash bail.

“The driver was arrested, presented in court and charged with various traffic offences. He was granted a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a court bond of Sh300,000.

“We sincerely thank the public for reporting the incident,” NTSA said.

In the update, the authority termed the stunts by the member of the crew as reckless and extremely dangerous.

It also said that the vehicle was being driven in a way that it made sharp turns and applied instant brakes, a move that could throw passengers off balance or make them fall.

NTSA urged the passengers to always ensure they have seatbelts on whenever in the vehicle.

“The stunt was reckless and extremely dangerous. Sudden braking, sharp turns, or acceleration can easily throw the passenger off balance, leading to a fatal fall.

“While in the vehicle, passengers, including the conductor, must always use the seats and seatbelts for their safety.”

In the viral video seen by The Star, the crew member who is in a white shirt and a green reflector jacket is seen having his legs suspended in the air while holding on to the door of the vehicle, while it makes a sharp turn.

He then does a few others where he holds the vehicle with one hand and one leg on it, while the other hand and leg remain suspended.

Kenyans have been calling on NTSA to rein in on such reckless behavior and driving on Kenyan roads.
