Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula are leading a high-powered delegation of MPs and senior government officials to the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) in Algiers, Algeria.
The five-day biennial trade fair, which runs under the auspices of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the African Union Commission, and the AfCFTA Secretariat, begins September 4.
It will be held under the theme “Gateway to New Opportunities”.
With more than 1,600 exhibitors and tens of thousands of delegates expected, IATF2025 has grown into the continent’s premier platform for trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
It provides a strategic avenue for African countries to deepen intra-continental trade, strengthen industrialisation, and accelerate economic transformation.
Speaking before departure, Wetang’ula underscored Kenya’s commitment to leveraging the AfCFTA to expand market access for local enterprises.
“ATF2025 provides a unique platform for businesses to tap into the integrated African market of more than 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP exceeding US$3.5 trillion under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” he stated.
The IATF is also expected to provide a platform for matchmaking between buyers and sellers, showcasing investment opportunities, and facilitating access to trade finance.
Organisers say the fair will help African businesses overcome barriers such as limited information, weak value chains, and inadequate market linkages.
Kenya has in recent years intensified efforts to expand its footprint in African markets, with the government prioritising the export of manufactured goods, processed agricultural products, and services.
Officials say the Algerian forum presents a critical opportunity to pitch Kenya as a hub for innovation and investment.
Analysts note that stronger intra-African trade could reduce the continent’s overdependence on external markets while creating sustainable jobs and industrial growth.
The Kenyan delegation is expected to hold sideline meetings with potential investors, trade partners, and regional leaders during the week-long exhibition.
IATF was first held in Cairo, Egypt, in 2018 as a flagship platform to boost trade and investment across Africa.
It was created to bring together buyers, sellers, investors, and governments to unlock opportunities presented by the AfCFTA.
