The National Police Service (NPS) has recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition in Kakapul, Baringo County, during a multi-agency security operation on Monday.

In a statement posted on its X account, the NPS said the firearm was discovered hidden within the homestead of a suspected illegal firearm holder.

“A multi-agency security operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition from the homestead of a suspected illegal firearm owner,” the statement read.

Police said the suspect evaded arrest during the raid, adding that efforts to track and apprehend the individual have been intensified.

This comes a day after officers on night patrol in the Pipeline area of Embakasi recovered another firearm and arrested two suspects.

“National Police Service officers on night patrol in the Pipeline area received intelligence regarding two individuals in possession of a suspected firearm,” the statement added.

The NPS has appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest. Citizens are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or use available toll-free lines to share tips in confidence.
