Drama as bus stops to allow passengers chase runaway chicken

Passengers aboard a Guardian Bus from Western Kenya were treated to an unusual spectacle during what was meant to be a routine stopover.

Just as the vehicle prepared to continue its journey, a chicken belonging to two travellers wriggled free and bolted into the nearby thickets.

What followed was nearly an hour of unexpected drama.

According to a video seen by the Star, some passengers alighted, weaving through the bushes in pursuit of the runaway chicken.

What began as a moment of frustration quickly turned into light-hearted comic relief for everyone on board.

For the owners, however, the chase was no joke.

In Western Kenya, and particularly among the Luhya community, chicken is more than just food; it is central to tradition, hospitality, and celebration.

To lose one would be unthinkable, and so giving up was not an option.

Whether the bird was eventually caught remained unclear, but for those on the bus, the chase itself became the highlight of the trip, a reminder of just how seriously Kenyans take their chicken.
