Bomet Governor Hillary Kipng’eno Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati were arraigned on Tuesday at the Milimani Anti-Corruption court over graft allegations.
The two leaders were brought to the court earlier in the morning under tight police escort and held briefly in the cells as they awaited the formal arraignment.
They were accompanied by several co-suspects, who investigators allege played a role in the financial dealings at the centre of the case.
After processing, Barchok, Wangamati, and their co-accused were led to the Anti-Corruption Court where they are expected to plead to charges approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The charges stem from investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into county government operations.
According to the ODPP, the inquiry raised allegations of procurement fraud, conflict of interest, and misappropriation of public funds during their tenure in office.
Governor Barchok is facing charges of conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property.
Wangamati faces charges of conflict of interest linked to payments allegedly diverted through companies associated with him and his close associates.
The matter is set to proceed before the Anti-Corruption Court, where they are expected to plead to charges.
