President William Ruto has said hospitals found to have engaged in irregularities in the health sector will not only lose their licenses but will also be required to refund all funds they obtained unlawfully.

The President noted that the government has already de-registered more than 1,000 health facilities over alleged mismanagement of public resources allocated for medical services.

“We will not just withdraw their licenses; we will pursue them until they pay back the money. There is nothing more criminal than stealing from the sick,” Ruto said.

Speaking on Saturday during the installation of Rt. Rev. John Kiplimo Arap Lelei, as the first Bishop of the newly-created Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet in Nandi, the Head of State emphasised that the fight against corruption would be impartial and uncompromising.

He urged Kenyans to reject negative ethnicity, political division, and corruption, stressing that integrity must form the foundation of national progress.

“I am glad that the church, the private sector, and the public sector are standing together. If we eliminate corruption and theft of public property, we will transform this nation within our lifetime,” he added.

Ruto also reiterated his administration’s focus on socio-economic transformation. Drawing parallels with nations such as Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and China, he said Kenya has the potential to achieve rapid growth if it embraces discipline, planning, and unity.

He noted that China had lifted 300 million people out of poverty in three decades, adding that Kenya can follow a similar path if leaders and citizens remain committed.

Highlighting government projects in affordable housing, infrastructure development, universal health coverage, and education, the President said these initiatives are designed to raise living standards and propel the country forward.

“There are people who doubt this country, but I want to tell them that God will put them to shame. Kenya is destined for greatness, and together we will take it to the future,” he said.

The Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet, established by Pope Leo XIV on July 10, 2025, is Kenya’s 28th episcopal see. It was carved out of the Eldoret Diocese and will serve the faithful in Ndalat, Kaiboi, Chepterit, Ol’ Lessos, Nandi Hills, and Kobujoi deaneries.
