A suspected thug was stoned to death moments after he had fatally stabbed a man in Midoti village, Migori County.
The suspect had
earlier on, while in the company of another man, tried to rob a rider of his
motorcycle.
Police said the
rider raised an alarm attracting a mob that rushed to the scene to his rescue.
The mob started
to attack one of the said thieves with stones, kicks and twigs. His accomplice
had managed to escape from the scene.
According to
police, it was then that the suspect reached out his knife which he used to
stab one of his attackers in the mob.
Police said
George Ouma, 43 was stabbed in the left side of his head and arm with the knife
and fell on the ground bleeding.
He was rushed
to the local Migori County Referral Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries
while being attended to.
In the meantime,
the mob had stoned and killed the suspected assailant at the scene.
The two bodies
were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation.
Police said
they recovered the killer weapon at the scene.
Police discourage
mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing.
Elsewhere in
Kabachi, Mutuati, Meru County, a 65-year-old woman was found murdered and the
body abandoned in a thicket.
The woman
identified as Jerusha Syomithea had gone to a farm in the area on August 25 but
failed to return home.
This prompted a search that led to the discovery of her body two days later.
Police were called
to the scene and declared the body had injuries on the legs. She was suspected
to have been assaulted and killed elsewhere before the body was ferried and
dumped in the area.
The motive of
the murder is yet to be known, police said.
The body was
moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigation. Police said on Friday
no arrest had been made.
Police statistics
show murder cases are on the rise in the area amid efforts to solve them.
Most of the cases so far reported have been linked to land tussles, police say.
