Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba was released on a Sh10,000 police cash bail following her arrest outside the Parliament Building.
Police said she was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 pending possible arraignment and that they were preparing charges of what they termed as creating disturbances and obstruction of justice.
After her arrest, Orwoba was taken to Central Police Station in Nairobi, where she was processed and later released.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda said the investigation team had released her pending possible arraignment.
"She was released pending possible arraignment on allegations of obstruction of justice and creating disturbances," he said.
He added that the Sh10,000 cash bail was sufficient for the alleged offences.
In a post on her Facebook account on Wednesday, Orwoba stated that she had been detained at Central Police Station.
"I have been detained in Central Police Station. I am awaiting my charges, which are apparently being booked at Parliament police station," she claimed.
The senator had been barred from accessing the Senate in what she described as a dramatic incident.
Orwoba did not access the Senate despite presenting reinstatement orders.
In a video seen by the Star, security officers were seen barring her entry into the Senate.
Orwoba was overheard daring the security officers to arrest her, noting she was in the senate legally.
She argued that the courts had reinstated her to work, and attempts by the UDA to have her blocked from being allowed into the senate flopped.
“I am here to go back to work as per the court’s instructions and judgements that came out, in fact, I have my badge and everything...I am just coming to work,” she said.
According to Orwoba, she is the sitting nominated senator for UDA until the courts ruled otherwise.
On August 20, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) nullified the expulsion of former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing procedural lapses in the disciplinary proceedings—procedural lapses that breached fundamental principles of fairness.
In its judgment, the tribunal chaired by Desma Nungo found that UDA’s disciplinary process violated the principles of natural justice and due process.
“There was no fair opportunity for hearing, and the complainant was not furnished with the impugned decision,” the tribunal ruled.
Orwoba had been expelled from the party earlier over allegations of disloyalty, claims she dismissed as politically motivated.
UDA maintained that the expulsion was justified and argued before the tribunal that the case was sub judice due to a High Court petition filed earlier by Orwoba.
