Police officers in Dagoretti, Nairobi County, have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis.

The operation, carried out by officers from the National Police Service’s Nairobi Region team, targeted suspected drug distribution networks in the Waithaka area.

Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a motorcycle believed to be involved in transporting illegal substances.

A thorough search revealed several packets of cannabis weighing approximately 5 kilogrammes and 192 rolls of the drug.

Both the rider and passenger were immediately taken into custody and are currently being held as investigations continue.

"The team intercepted a motorcycle connected to cannabis trafficking and recovered packets weighing 5kg, along with 192 rolls of cannabis. Consequently, both the rider and the passenger of the motorcycle were arrested," NPS said.

Police have confirmed that the suspects will be processed and arraigned in court in the coming days.

The recovered evidence has been secured and will be used in the legal proceedings.

Speaking on the operation, police officials reiterated their commitment to eliminating illegal drug activities across the county.

They called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasising that community cooperation is vital in the fight against narcotics.

More similar operations are expected in the coming weeks as part of a broader effort to disrupt drug trafficking networks and promote public safety.

"National Police Service will intensify similar operations across the country and calls upon the public to continue volunteering information that could lead to the success of these initiatives."

This comes as police intensify crackdowns on illicit brews and drugs across the country.

In June, National Police Service (NPS) officers from Bungoma West Subcounty arrested a woman and seized 154 rolls of cannabis sativa after a successful raid in Nabuloli Village.

The raid was an act on a tip-off from members of the public targeting the homestead of the suspect.

The suspect is in custody at Sirisia Police Station, awaiting arraignment at Sirisia Law Courts.

The recovered drugs are now being held as evidence while police prepare to take further legal action.

NPS praised the public for their role in the operation, stressing that community involvement is crucial in the fight against drug-related crime.
