Detectives from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), working alongside officers from Mombasa Central Police Station, have arrested two people in connection with a suspected unlicensed overseas job recruitment operation.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation in the Makadara area of Mombasa.
Police claimed the facility was being used for recruitment activities without meeting the legal requirements for such businesses.
According to investigators, documents recovered at the scene included an expired registration certificate from the National Employment Authority (NEA), registers, a receipt book, and an official stamp.
The items have been secured to aid ongoing investigations.
The two individuals are currently in custody and are expected to appear in court to face charges related to illegal recruitment and violation of employment regulations.
In a statement, the National Police Service urged Kenyans seeking overseas job opportunities to take precautions and verify recruitment agencies before engaging with them.
“The National Police Service urges members of the public seeking employment opportunities abroad to verify recruitment agencies through the National Employment Authority,” the statement read.
Authorities have been cracking down on unlicensed recruitment activities, warning that fraudulent operators often take advantage of desperate job seekers with promises of employment abroad.
