The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially opened applications for 24,000 teacher internship positions in Junior Secondary Schools across the country.

The move aims to bolster the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in the ongoing education reforms.

In a public advertisement on Tuesday, TSC urged qualified and interested candidates to apply through its official online platforms—www.tsc.go.ke under the ‘Careers’ section or directly via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.

The application window runs from August 26 and closes at midnight on September 9, 2025.

“Successful applicants will be posted to Junior Schools within the sub-counties where they are interviewed or to other schools within the county where vacancies exist,” the commission stated.

The internships, under the Teacher Internship Programme, will run for one year and are designed to equip new educators with practical experience, mentorship, and coaching in a real classroom environment.

Interns will be expected to teach various learning areas under the Junior School Curriculum.

To qualify for the internship programme, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold at least a Diploma in Education.

Candidates must also have a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE and at least C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects and be registered teachers with TSC.

Applicants are advised to consult the TSC website for a detailed list of available positions by county and sub-county.

While the internship is not a salaried position, TSC has confirmed that interns will receive a monthly stipend of Sh20,000, subject to statutory deductions.

TSC emphasised that it is an equal opportunity employer and encouraged persons with disabilities (PWDs) to apply.

The commission also warned against fraud, urging the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest TSC office or its headquarters.

The recruitment will follow the Guidelines for Recruitment of Teacher Interns for the 2025/2026 Financial Year, also available on the commission’s website.
