Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Tuesday held a consultative meeting with Rev. Wallace Gacihi Ng’ang’a, the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya.

The meeting focused on the welfare of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers, service members, and their families.

They discussed ways of enhancing spiritual and psychological support for military personnel, with emphasis on strengthening welfare structures to uphold dignity and morale within the KDF.

CS Tuya acknowledged the role of religious institutions in promoting resilience, unity, and mental health among soldiers and their families, assuring continued collaboration with the church to safeguard the holistic welfare of the military community.

The Military Ordinariate of Kenya, established as a military vicariate by Pope John Paul II on July 24, 1981, provides pastoral and sacramental care to Catholic members serving in the KDF and their dependents.

Rev. Ng’ang’a, the third bishop to lead the Catholic Military Ordinariate, was installed on October 12, 2023, in a ceremony at Ulinzi Stadium graced by President William Ruto.

His leadership has prioritised spiritual formation, counselling services, and integration of chaplaincy into military support structures.

Tuya commended the Bishop and the ordinariate for their unwavering partnership with the Ministry of Defence.

In response, Bishop Ng’ang’a reaffirmed the church’s commitment to stand alongside KDF officers and their families.
