His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on Monday arrived in Kenya ahead of his official visit under the invitation of President William Ruto.

The visit marks his first official engagement since succeeding his late father, His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV.

His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV passed away in February 2025 at the age of 88.

His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V was received by the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Mudavadi said His Highness has embarked on this maiden visit since assuming his role as the 50th hereditary spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

He said the discussions focused on deepening and expanding areas of cooperation between Kenya and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), an institution whose impact touches millions of lives across our country through investments in education, healthcare, media, economic empowerment, and environmental stewardship.

The CS said the visit reaffirms the long-standing bonds between Kenya and the Aga Khan family, and opens a new chapter of collaboration for the prosperity of Kenyans.

He was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale among other leaders.

In February, His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V on received global leaders of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community at his accession Ceremony.

The event took place at the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon, Portugal. The Accession Ceremony marked the formal assumption by the Shia Ismaili Imam, of his role, following the passing of his predecessor.

The ceremony consisted of religious recitations, the presentation and donning of insignia of office, and the pledging of spiritual allegiance by leaders of the Ismaili community on behalf of all Ismailis around the world.

During the ceremony, leaders of the Ismaili community pledged spiritual allegiance to the 50th hereditary Imam on behalf of the global Ismaili community.

Ismailis around the world observed the ceremony via livestream in their Jamatkhanas (places of gathering) in more than 35 countries.

In his address, The Aga Khan paid tribute to his late father, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, and thanked his family for their presence and support.

The Aga Khan family has played a pivotal role in Kenya’s development in sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.

The Aga Khan is associated with The Aga Khan Hospital, the Aga Khan schools and several media houses in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
