Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has cautioned Members of Parliament against using intimidation tactics to derail President William Ruto’s efforts to expose corruption among legislators and government officials.
Speaking in Ugunja constituency, Wandayi dismissed threats to impeach the President as a waste of time, insisting that Ruto was fulfilling his constitutional duty by demanding accountability from all public servants, including MPs.
“The war against corruption will not be stopped by a few individuals who have been enriching themselves at the expense of the people. Such intimidation tactics must stop,” Wandayi said.
He emphasised that while some legislators played a role in Ruto’s electoral success, this did not give them the freedom to engage in corruption.
He added that Kenyans fully support the President’s anti-graft stance and will rally behind him to ensure he completes his term.
The CS also lauded the collaboration between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga under the broad-based government, describing it as a formidable partnership that would deliver results and secure victory in the next general elections.
Kibra MP Peter Orero and Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, who accompanied Wandayi, reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to the inclusive government.
Oluoch defended both Ruto and Odinga over their recent anti-corruption remarks but urged them to direct their criticism toward specific individuals involved in graft rather than generalising.
Ruto on Tuesday formally established a powerful Multi-Agency Team (MAT) on war against corruption (MAT), a few days after he issued a strong warning to corrupt individuals in government.
The new team will spearhead the country’s anti-graft campaign, reinforcing his administration’s “whole-of-government” approach to ending economic crimes.
In a presidential proclamation issued under Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, Ruto stated that the initiative seeks to enhance cooperation, synergy, and coordination among key state institutions charged with combating corruption, money laundering, and related crimes.
President Ruto emphasised that the fight against corruption remains a collective duty under the Constitution and urged all agencies and citizens to support the multi-agency drive.
The latest move by President Ruto signals a commitment by his administration to ending corruption.
