The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a
large-scale recruitment drive, unveiling 181 job vacancies across a wide range
of technical and academic disciplines.
Scheduled to take place in September, the recruitment targets both fresh
graduates and experienced professionals seeking to join the national
institution in delivering youth empowerment through vocational training.
The vacancies are spread across three major
ranks: Technical Instructor III (CSG 12, JG ‘H’), Lecturer II (CSG 11, JG ‘J’) and
Lecturer I (CSG 10, JG ‘K’).
Each role offers permanent and pensionable terms, with comprehensive civil
service benefits including medical coverage under the SHA Scheme for Civil
Servants, housing, commuter and leave allowances in accordance with existing
government provisions.
At the entry level, NYS is hiring 130
Technical Instructors III.
These positions come with a salary scale ranging between Sh28,620 and Sh37,100.
Candidates must hold a diploma in relevant fields and possess a certificate
in computer applications from a recognised institution.
While an NYS discharge certificate is not mandatory, it is considered an
added advantage.
Among the vacancies, the highest number of posts are in Automotive
Engineering, with 22 positions open to diploma holders in both electrical and
mechanical specialisations.
Another area of high demand is Information Communication Technology, with 10
vacancies for diploma graduates.
Additional vacancies for Technical Instructors
include eight posts each in Building and Construction, Electrical Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering.
The Service is also seeking nine instructors in Plumbing, six in both
General Agriculture and Animal Health and Production, and four in Food and
Beverage as well as Mechanical Engineering (Plant).
Other fields with opportunities include Refrigeration and Air Conditioning,
Carpentry and Joinery, Horticulture, Catering and Accommodation, Secretarial
Studies, Supply Chain Management, and Fashion Design, each with between one and
four positions.
The least represented disciplines, with just one post each, include
Accounting, Farm Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, Sales and Marketing,
Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Management.
For those with higher academic qualifications,
NYS has advertised 13 Lecturer II positions, each carrying a salary scale of
Sh34,420 to Sh46,120.
These roles require a bachelor’s degree in fields such as Languages
(specifically French), Secretarial Studies, Business Management,
Entrepreneurship, Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, Fashion
and Textile Design, and Supply Chain Management.
As with the instructors, candidates must also demonstrate computer
proficiency and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
The call for Lecturer I positions has 38 vacancies
open to candidates holding advanced qualifications.
These roles, which command a salary range of Sh41,420 to Sh57,230, are aimed
at individuals with bachelor’s degrees in fields such as Finance and
Accounting, Information Communication Technology, Mathematics and Computing,
Agricultural Sciences, and various branches of engineering, including Civil,
Electrical, Mechanical, and Aeronautical Engineering.
Other sought-after disciplines include Architecture, Quantity Surveying,
Building Construction Technology, Catering and Hotel Management, Food Nutrition
and Dietetics, Industrial Plant Engineering, Horticulture and Marketing.
Each of these Lecturer I positions reflects NYS’s strategic emphasis on
expanding and diversifying its academic programs to align with modern industry
demands.
For instance, three posts are available in ICT and Mechanical Engineering
respectively, while two each have been earmarked for Mathematics and Computing,
Agricultural Economics, Construction Plant, Architecture, Automotive
Engineering, Electrical & Electronics, and Industrial Plant Engineering.
Single positions are available in more specialised areas such as Animal
Health Science, Quantity Survey, and Agricultural Engineering.
To qualify for these lecturer roles, applicants
must have not only the relevant bachelor’s degree but also a certificate in
computer applications and meet the integrity requirements outlined in Chapter
Six of the Constitution, which mandates ethical conduct and transparency in
public service.
Interested candidates are required to complete
the Public Service Commission (PSC) Application for Employment Form PSC.2 (Revised
2016).
Each application must include a detailed curriculum vitae, certified copies
of academic certificates, testimonials, and a copy of the national ID or
passport.
The application should be clearly marked with the job title and reference
number and submitted in a sealed envelope.
Submissions can be made in person at the NYS
Headquarters Registry located on the Ground Floor, Ruaraka, Thika Road, or sent
by post to the Commandant General, National Youth Service, P.O. Box 30397 –
00100, GPO Nairobi.
Alternatively, digital submissions are accepted via email at [email protected],
with the job title used as the subject line.
The deadline for all applications is September
1, 2025.
