The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the busy Rironi/Kamandura Interchange in Limuru to allow for reconstruction works.
In a public notice issued by Acting Director General Luka Kimeli, the agency said the closure will affect the junction linking A8 (Waiyaki Way), Limuru Road, and A8 South (Mai Mahiu Road).
It will begin Friday, August 22, 2025, and remain in place until October 31, 2025.
The roadworks will involve the reconstruction of the entire interchange, including slip roads, loops, and approach roads.
The project is part of the ongoing upgrade of the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mai Mahiu highway corridor to improve traffic flow and safety.
To minimise disruptions, KeNHA has provided a traffic management plan and advised motorists to use designated alternative routes.
Vehicles from A8 (Waiyaki Way) heading to Mai Mahiu (A8 South) will be diverted to old Naivasha Road near Rubis Tilisi, proceeding directly to Mai Mahiu.
Traffic from Mai Mahiu (A8 South) bound for Nairobi will turn at Mutarakwa Junction onto Limuru Road and rejoin Waiyaki Way at Kwa Mbira flyover.
Motorists from Ruaka, Ndenderu, and Kabuku will proceed to Limuru Town and join the A8 at Kwa Mbira flyover.
Through traffic along the A8 highway to and from Kamandura, Kimende, and Naivasha will, however, remain unaffected.
KeNHA further urged motorists to adhere to road signs, cooperate with traffic police and marshals on site, and plan their journeys in advance to avoid congestion.
“KeNHA is committed to delivering safe and efficient road infrastructure. We appeal for patience and cooperation from the public as we undertake these works, which are expected to ease movement and enhance road safety once completed,” said Kimeli.
The Rironi/Kamandura Interchange is a critical junction that connects Nairobi to the Rift Valley and serves as a gateway to western Kenya.
Its reconstruction is expected to significantly reduce traffic snarl-ups and improve connectivity for commuters, long-distance travelers, and cargo transporters.
