Council of Governors chairman Ahmed Abdullahi has hailed Kithure Kindiki, crediting him with transforming the Office of the Deputy President.
In a video seen by The Star, Abdullahi said Kindiki has brought professionalism and dignity to the office.
The Wajir Governor noted that Governors now feel encouraged to attend the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) meetings, describing the environment as more welcoming.
“Your Excellency, you have brought professionalism and a voice of reason into that office, from an IBEC that we dreaded to one that we look forward to attending,” Abdullahi said.
The governor went on to thank Kindiki, noting that his academic background and calm demeanour had helped reshape perceptions.
“I must thank you, Your Excellency. Asante sana. No wonder you are a professor. Thank you,” he added.
Governor Abdullahi spoke at the closing of the 9th Devolution Conference held in Homa Bay County.
The four-day conference was officially opened by President William Ruto and closed by Kindiki.
Kindiki took over the Office of the Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
It was the first time under Kenya’s 2010 Constitution that a sitting Deputy President faced such proceedings.
At the time, Kindiki served as Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Speaking after Kindiki's swearing in as Deputy President, President William Ruto said he trusted that Kindiki would help him communicate the government's agenda to the people of Kenya.
Kindiki’s tenure at the Office of the Deputy President has been marked by efforts to professionalise operations and streamline communication, qualities that Abdullahi credited for restoring confidence in the institution.
