A joint funeral mass is currently ongoing at the Naki Primary School in Nyakach for 22 of the 26 victims of Kisumu-Kakamega highway bus crash.
The victims perished on August 8 after a bus they were travelling in from a funeral in Nyahera crashed at the Coptic roundabout, just outside Kisumu city.
Grief-stricken families collected the bodies on Friday from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue on Friday.
Many were relatives and friends.
A sombre mood has engulfed Kisumu as leaders and residents gather for the joint funeral service to honour the 22 victims.
A heart-wrenching procession saw families, friends, and neighbours break down in grief.

The ceremony has brought together leaders from across the political divide, the clergy, and community members who came to stand in solidarity with the bereaved.
Those present include ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, Homa Bay Deputy Governor, MPs Aduma Owuor (Nyakach), Kisumu Central's Joshua Oron, Kisumu East's Shakeel Shabbir, Kisumu West's Rosa Buyu among others.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), officials from national government and other stakeholders joined the families for the mass service.

Each family will then proceed with final rites and individual burial ceremonies according to their traditions.
The highway crash, which occurred on August 8 at the Coptic roundabout, has left the region shaken and raised fresh concerns over road safety.
Leaders have indicated that more support will continue to be extended to the affected families as they begin the long journey of healing.
