President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to judge him by his achievements rather than campaign pledges alone.

Ruto said he has no reason or excuse to fall short in delivering on his promises.

He said he possesses the right combination of age, education, and political experience to steer the country effectively.

"I have a PhD, I have served three terms as a Member of Parliament, and I was Deputy President for 10 years. I cannot use lack of experience or education as an excuse," he said.

He contrasted his situation with that of previous presidents, noting that some could justify underperformance due to age, limited education, or lack of experience.

“Jomo (Kenyatta) could say he was old, having become President in his seventies. Others could say they didn’t have enough education," he said.

Ruto made the remarks when he hosted grassroots leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties at State House.

The President added that he took up the job fully aware of its challenges, but with a firm resolve to deliver change.

“I have the energy, I have the skills, and I have the experience. Let me do this job so Kenya can be transformed,” he told the leaders.

The meeting comes at a time when the President seeks to calm the restive region, which is perceived to be embracing former Interior Affairs Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who has expressed his desire to run for president.

Some of the leaders have openly been vouching for Matiang’i, with UDA’s Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) leading the caucus of elected MPs who have been campaigning for Dr. Matiang’i.

The meeting also takes place ahead of three planned by-elections in Nyamira County slated for 27th November 2025.

The ward elections include Nyansiongo in Borabu Constituency, the birthplace of Dr. Matiang’i, Ekerenyo in North Mugirango, and Nyamaiya in West Mugirango.
