The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua will arrive in Kenya on August 21 after a month-long tour of the US.

In a statement on Thursday, DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala said Gachagua cut short his US tour “to lead the movement for national revival.”

Malala said Gachagua’s plane is expected to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at exactly noon.

The former Kakamega senator alleged that upon his arrival, the state plans to make real its threat by arresting the fomer Deputy President.

“If they dare lay a hand on him, the country will grind to a halt,” Malala warned, vowing that the party would resist any attempt to block him from addressing supporters.

He alleged that there are plans to divert Gachagua's flight in order to prevent him from addressing supporters at the JKIA.

Malala described Gachagua's arrival as an event worth of a grand welcome.

“This is not just a welcome – it is a statement to the world that Kenya belongs to her people,” he added, calling on supporters to turn out in large numbers.

The DCP says the homecoming will also mark the start of its campaigns for upcoming by-elections.

While in the US, Gachagua visited Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City and Baltimore, where he met Kenyan diaspora communities and launched party satellite offices.

"He rallied our brothers and sisters abroad to prepare for active political participation and to return home to help rebuild this nation from the ruins of corruption and misrule," Malala said.

Gachagua's return is expected to set the stage for a high-octane political showdown against his former ally-turned foe, President William Ruto, whose UDA has annonced plans to conduct nominations for different seats ahead of the November 27 mini-polls.

Gachagua said he was cutting short his US engagements to hit the campaign trail for his party’s candidates, underplaying the alleged threats to arrest him.

He will arrive just a day after the UDA primaries.
