How fuel prices will retail in five major towns

Prices of super petrol and kerosene will go down by Sh1 per litre while diesel remains the same.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has announced new fuel prices that will take effect from August 15.

In the latest review on August 14, Epra said the prices of super petrol and kerosene will go down by Sh1 per litre. However, diesel will remain the same.

In the August review, super petrol, diesel and kerosene will now retail at Sh185.31, Sh171.58 and Sh155.58, in Nairobi.

Pump prices in Mombasa will be Sh182.03 for super petrol, Sh168.30 for diesel and Sh152.29 for kerosene.

Super petrol will retail at Sh184.35 in Nakuru, with diesel going for Sh170.97 and kerosene Sh155.01

In Eldoret, the pump prices will be Sh185.17 for super petrol, Sh171.80 for diesel and Sh155.83 for kerosene.

The pump prices will be Sh185.16 for super petrol, Sh171.78 for diesel and Sh155.83 for kerosene in Kisumu.

"In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, we have calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th August 2025 to 14th September 2025," Epra said in a statement.
"The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020."

Motorists relying on diesel will still face high costs, while those on super petrol and kerosene will maintain similar costs.

On July 14, Epra increased fuel prices by Sh 8.99 for petrol, Sh8.67 for diesel and Sh9.65 per litre of kerosene.

In last July’s fuel prices review, Freight cost increases had an impact as shipping lines reacted to the attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway located between Iran and Oman, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

It was a vital chokepoint for global oil and natural gas trade, with approximately 20 per cent of global oil consumption and 20 per cent of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade passing through it daily.
