On the radar

President William Ruto will officially open the 2025 Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County today.

During the event, the Council of Governors is expected to make a case for increased allocations to devolved units.

The event has been themed “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.”

The main venue for the event is Homa Bay High School, with supplementary events at Raila Odinga Stadium and Tom Mboya University. The side events will include thematic discussions, exhibitions and collaborative forums.

This will be the second time the lake region has hosted the national event. A similar conference was held in Kisumu in April 2025.

Parliamentary committees to receive final submissions on KPC privatisation

The joint Parliamentary Committee on Energy and the Committee on Public Debt and Privatisation today receive final submissions on the proposed privatisation of Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) from 9 am, Hilton Garden Inn, Mombasa Road.

The committee will receive submissions from the National Treasury, Privatisation Commission, Office of the Attorney General and the Solicitor General.

KPC is a major player in the country’s petroleum transport and supply infrastructure.

The government aims to raise approximately Sh100 billion from the transaction, with the Treasury earlier stating that proceeds will go toward funding critical public services and infrastructure, as well as reducing Kenya’s reliance on debt.

The Cabinet gave its approval for the sale of KPC during its July 29, 2025, meeting.

IGAD to convene regional conference on youth, peace, and security

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will hold a Regional Youth Peace and Security Conference at the Argyle Grand Hotel, Nairobi, from 8.30 am.

The conference has been organised by the IGAD Gender Department in collaboration with the Peace and Security Division.

The two-day event will focus on institutionalising youth participation in peace processes across the IGAD region.

It will bring together young peacebuilders, including refugee youth and cross-border community representatives, to engage in policy dialogue, share innovations, and co-develop recommendations in alignment with the IGAD Youth Policy (2021-2030) and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security.

Parliamentary committee to vet nominees for the National Police Service Commission

The Committee on Administration and Internal Security will vet persons nominated for chairperson and members of the National Police Service Commission at Bunge Towers from 9 am.

The committee will examine the suitability of Dr. Amani Yuda Komora and Angeline Yiamiton Siparo for chairperson and member positions, respectively.

President William Ruto nominated Komora as the new chairperson NPSC on  August 4, 2025. Alongside Komora, Siparo was nominated as a commissioner.

The NPSC is responsible for various functions related to the National Police Service, including recruitment, appointment, and oversight. The commission consists of nine members, including the chairperson, and they serve on a full-time basis.
