Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has faulted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for making what he has termed as divisive and unpatriotic remarks during his ongoing visit to the United States.

Speaking in Funyula, Busia county, where he commissioned new classrooms and a water project, Mudavadi expressed strong concern over Gachagua’s public statements abroad.

He said the former DP’s statements portrayed Kenya in a negative light and risked undermining national unity.

“Look at a scenario where Rigathi Gachagua, who has gotten to the level of Deputy President, goes abroad and champions tribalism until the people in the diaspora tell him to shun away from it,” Mudavadi said.

"As Kenyans, our goal is to preach peace across our region.”

Mudavadi said Gachagua should instead unite the country, instead of exporting divisive rhetoric and tribal politics to the diaspora.

He claimed Gachagua is misleading Kenyans abroad by alleging that the Kenyan government is working with the terrorist group Al-Shabaab — claims Mudavadi termed "falsehoods, baseless, and dangerous."

“Al-Shabaab are terrorists who have caused havoc to this country in the past, killing scores in Garissa, Dusit D2, and other places. How can a government work with armed groups that are out to destroy its people and destabilise the country?” Mudavadi posed, visibly outraged.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary dismissed the allegations as not only irresponsible but also deeply insulting to the country's security agencies and leadership.

He reminded the public that Gachagua, as a former Deputy President, had sat in the National Security Council and was therefore well-informed about Kenya's anti-terror operations.

“How can he claim such false allegations? If he can reach such an extent of lying, can he be called a patriotic Kenyan?” he posed.

Mudavadi also criticised Gachagua for calling on the US government to investigate the Kenyan administration, saying such actions bordered on betrayal.

“If indeed Rigathi is a patriot, why is he saying he wants the government of the USA to investigate the government of Kenya? Is it that Rigathi is a police officer in the USA?” Mudavadi quipped.

“You are a Kenyan—be patriotic, work for your people, speak for your people, and defend your country. That is what true patriotism calls for.”

The PCS urged Kenyans to reject leaders who promote division and called on all public servants—past and present—to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and integrity.

Joining Mudavadi at the event was former Vice President Moody Awori, whom he praised for his contributions to education and social development in Busia and beyond.

“Uncle Moody has been a pillar in championing education and community service. His dedication to the people of Busia is unmatched, and his presence here today shows the importance of uniting for the greater good,” said Mudavadi.
