President William Ruto on Monday paid a visit to Harambee Stars at their hotel following 1-0 victory over two-time champions Morocco in their third Group A match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

The match was played at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Sunday.

Ruto announced a significant cash incentive for Harambee Stars ahead of their upcoming clash against Zambia, promising Sh2.5 million for each player and member of the technical bench if the team secures a win on Sunday, August 17.

The president also promised additional rewards for the team if they win their quarter-finals.

He said they would each get Sh1 million reward and a house under the Affordable Housing Programme.

“For the quarters, if we win, on top of the Sh1 million, I will add the affordable housing you have asked for,” he told the players.

Ruto said the victory reflected the collective effort of a nation determined to rise, commending the players for doing their part with “outstanding, phenomenal” commitment.

“You made us proud and made Kenya super proud. We started together — I told you what you need to do, what other Kenyans need to do, and what I needed to do. I am happy that everybody is doing their bit,” he added.

Harambee Stars now look to build on the momentum as they take on Zambia in their final group match.

During Sunday’s game, Ryan Ogam netted the decisive goal in the 42nd minute, his first in international football.

He helped Kenya end Morocco’s 14-match unbeaten run in the tournament and keeping Harambee Stars firmly in the race for the quarter-finals.
