The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a notice informing the public of temporary traffic disruptions in Nairobi on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
This comes in light of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) and the expected increase in traffic around key areas of the city.
The disruptions will involve road closures and traffic diversions to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure safety.
Roads affected include Aerodrome Road, where the stretch from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout will be closed.
Additionally, one lane of Lang’ata Road from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout, and one lane of Mombasa Road from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout will also be temporarily closed.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Those travelling from Mombasa Road towards Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) should use Likoni Road and Enterprise Road near General Motors, or take the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.
Drivers coming from Lang’ata Road towards the CBD are urged to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout.
For those heading from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road, including Ruiru, Juja, and Thika, the recommended routes are Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.
Matatus transporting passengers to Kasarani are directed to use Ruaraka, Baba Ndogo Road, and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout.
Motorists coming from Thika Road heading to Nairobi CBD should use the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
The NPS advises avoiding Thika Road unless travelling to Moi International Sports Centre or Kasarani Stadium.
The National Police Service stressed that it is working closely with relevant agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow during the disruptions. “Additional police officers have been deployed and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” the notice said.
The highly anticipated clash will be played at the Kasarani Stadium at 3 pm. Motorists and residents are urged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
The NPS encourages the public to adhere to the traffic guidelines and remain patient as the city manages the expected surge in traffic during the CHAN 2024 event.
