A RECENT PURGE within two
critical agencies in government has sent shockwaves among some managing
directors. They are afraid they might also be shown the door. Worse, they are
approaching their retirement. Our mole whispers that some of them are seriously
lobbying using all means possible to have their contracts extended by at least
another year. One of them has even been overheard saying he has a big ongoing
project within the parastatal which he refers to as “a legacy project” and
wants to see it completed. Why? He says his successor will definitely take
credit for the project once he is kicked out.

A TOP POLITICO eyeing a big seat in the upcoming poll seems to be caught in the horns of a dilemma
over the vehicle he should use. His supposed financier has reportedly left him
to use an outfit that is perceived as not so popular. The financier also wants
him to dissociate himself from an outspoken politician. To complicate matters,
there are fresh demands by leaders and wheeler dealers from the politician's
backyard that he picks a party domiciled at home for his political battles.

SINCE THE HANDSHAKE in 2018, politicians have been repeatedly advised against
taking hardline positions, especially when it involves hurling insults at
rivals while defending their political godfathers. Time and again, political
foes have reconciled, leaving their loyal attack dogs embarrassed and exposed.
But the lessons are rarely learned. A senior politician who has spent the past
few months hitting out at the former president now supposedly finds himself in an awkward spot, after the same former
president recently met and appeared to bury the hatchet with his political
boss. It’s not the first time this politician has been caught off guard. He had
barely recovered from a similar fallout after an earlier truce between two
major political heavyweights.
***A CITY POLITICIAN appears
to be a man in deep confusion. Torn between two leading frontrunners for the
2027 race, he’s struggling to pick a side. He had been gravitating toward a
popular party and even came close to publicly announcing his move. However, allegedly fearing he might be
sidelined or not be treated fairly within the party ranks, he has since pulled
back. Word has it that the well-oiled politico is now considering launching his
own political vehicle and joining the party as a coalition partner because that
might give him more bargaining power.
