Police in Bungoma, Nyamira, and Vihiga counties have seized over half a tonne of suspected cannabis sativa in a series of operations carried out in the past two days.
In the latest operation earlier on Thursday, officers from Kiminini police station arrested a 25-year-old suspect in the Duka Moja area, Tongaren Subcounty, Bungoma county.
The suspect was found in possession of approximately 243 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa.
He is currently in custody awaiting arraignment as investigations continue.
The arrest followed a separate operation on August 6 in Nyamira county, where a targeted sting by officers from Keroka police station resulted in the seizure of 10 sacks containing roughly 260 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa.
Officers led by subcounty Police Commander Tobias Ombima intercepted a suspicious vehicle travelling from Kisii towards Sotik.
Upon inspection, it was found to have been fitted with a fake number plate in an attempt to evade detection.
Two occupants were arrested and placed in custody, while the vehicle has been impounded.

In a related incident on August 5, police officers from Luanda police station in Vihiga county acted on a tip-off in Emabungo Location, where “suspicious cartons had been left behind by an unknown motorcycle rider.”
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 16 bales of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 40 kilograms.
The narcotics were seized as exhibits as police launched investigations to identify and locate the motorcycle rider.
A day earlier, police officers manning the Watiti Roadblock apprehended a suspect in possession of approximately 3 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa, following a tip-off from a vigilant member of the public.
An informant had alerted police to a suspicious individual on a motorbike who appeared hesitant to cross the roadblock.
Moments later, a motorbike matching the description approached the checkpoint.
The rider attempted to evade the spike barrier but was quickly stopped by officers on duty.
During a search, the rider was found carrying a blue safari bag strapped to his back.
Inside the bag, officers discovered a quantity of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and taken to Bute police station, where he remained in custody until August 5 when he was arraigne and charged.
