Suspect on the run as police seize 40kgs of bhang in Vihiga

Police officers from Luanda Police Station in Vihiga County have discovered 16 bales of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 40 kilograms  

The discovery followed a successful operation conducted in the Emabungo location on Monday

The officers acted on a tip-off about suspicious cartons that had been left behind by an unknown motorcycle rider.

‘’Upon arriving at the scene, we inspected the boxes and discovered 16 bales of suspected Cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 40 kilograms, ’noted the police.

The narcotics were seized as exhibits, and investigations are underway to establish the identity and whereabouts of the motorcycle rider.

Meanwhile, Police officers have arrested a suspect found in possession of dried material suspected to be cannabis sativa weighing approximately three kilograms in a swift operation conducted at the Watiti Roadblock on Monday.

The arrest followed a tip from a vigilant member of the public who reported a suspicious individual on a motorbike who appeared to be hesitant to cross the barrier.

Acting quickly on the tip, officers from the roadblock stayed alert for a motorcycle license plate number KMQZ 007K, and upon the rider reaching the roadblock, the officers promptly stopped him.

The rider attempted to evade the spike.

According to the police, the suspect was carrying a blue safari bag strapped to his back. He was subjected to a thorough search, where police discovered dried material suspected to be cannabis sativa

‘’Upon opening the bag, officers discovered a dried plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 3 kilograms,’’ noted the police

The suspect was immediately arrested and escorted to Bute Police Station, where he was placed in custody.

He is expected to appear in court today, August 5, 2025.
