  • The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations will hold a meeting with top security officials over the death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody.
On the radar

President William Ruto will launch the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), which is replacing the Managed Equipment Services (MES) Programme.

The launch of the new programme will be held at State House, Nairobi.

The programme aims to ensure continuous access to medical equipment in county health facilities.

The MES programme, launched in 2015, aimed to provide specialised medical equipment to counties through a leasing model.

It was criticised for being shrouded in controversy and lacking transparency.

The NESP program is designed to address the shortcomings of the MES program. It will involve vendors providing, maintaining, and upgrading equipment at no upfront cost to the counties, with payments based on services rendered.

MPs to probe Tanzania trade restrictions in meeting with Mudavadi

The National Assembly Committee on Regional Integration will hold a meeting with the Prime Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, over Tanzania’s trade restrictions at noon in Bunge Towers.

Mudavadi is expected to declare the government’s position on the matter.

He will also brief MPs on security concerns on Migingo Island between Kenya and Uganda.

In a move that has sparked tension within the East African Community, Tanzania has imposed a sweeping ban on foreigners, including Kenyans, from operating 15 categories of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country.

Murkomen vs Cherargei: Political feud set to flare up in Senate committee session

The long-running political feud between Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei is expected to resurface today.

The CS will appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Communication, and Technology at noon, Bunge Towers.

He is scheduled to respond to a question posed by Cherargei regarding the digitisation of government services, a key pillar of Kenya's digital transformation agenda.

The meeting will be held at Bunge Towers, with media houses invited to cover what is widely anticipated to be a tense session.

The CS is expected to brief senators on the status of digitisation efforts aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility of public services—a critical area under the Ministry of Interior.

Senate security committee to meet top officials over death of blogger in police custody

A high-level meeting involving the Inspector General of the National Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Bunge Towers.

Ojwang’s case has amplified concerns over police brutality and custodial deaths, with civil society groups, activists, and members of the public urging authorities to take swift and transparent action. The session is expected to address the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death and the broader issue of police oversight and reforms.

Murkomen takes Jukwaa la Usalama engagement to Kericho

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen will be in Kericho County for the Jukwaa la Usalama engagement.

Jukwaa la Usalama, a platform for structured dialogue between communities and the government, enables citizens to directly engage with policymakers, security agencies, and local administrators.

The initiative prioritises public participation, mutual accountability, and long-term reform, creating space for ordinary Kenyans to voice their security concerns and propose solutions to the challenges they face.
