The light aircraft that crashed into a residential area in Mwihoko, Githurai 45, Nairobi, on Thursday afternoon was headed for Somalia.

The plane, identified as a Cessna Citation 560, burst into flames after hitting buildings around 2 pm.

The aircraft is said to belong to Phoenix Aviation and was operating under Amref’s Flying Doctors service.

According to officials, the plane had taken off from Wilson Airport and was en route to Hargeisa when it lost contact with air traffic controllers at around 12:17 pm.

Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft had two crew members, and the two medic on board.

Emergency responders, including military personnel and police, quickly arrived at the crash site to secure the area and hold back the crowd.

The incident occurred near a military base, prompting a swift response from nearby officers.

Githurai 45 Sub-county Police Commander Maurice Odanga confirmed the incident, saying that aviation and security experts were at the scene to investigate.

Fire engines were also deployed to contain the blaze. By the time of publishing this story the authorities had not confirmed the number of casualties.
