An expectant woman was found murdered and her body dumped in a banana plantation in a village in Borabu, Nyamira county.

Police said the incident happened in Mwongori area on Tuesday and involved a woman identified as Vane Mokua, 25, who was about six months pregnant.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police who attended the scene said.

The body was found lying in the banana plantation belonging to a neighbour long after the murder.

Police said the body had deep cuts on the back of the head and that both ears had been chopped off.

The ears were missing at the scene where the body was lying.

The woman was last seen on Monday evening in the area before the body was discovered by a worker, police and the neighbour said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations. Police said on Wednesday no arrest had been made so far.

Elsewhere in Kaptumo, Nandi County, one Kyalo Nzau, 46 was found murdered in his house.

Police said the incident happened in Kapkio village and added they suspect the man was murdered in a love triangle saga.

This was after the man was allegedly linked to the wife of an assailant who trailed him prompting a fight that turned fatal.

He was hit in the head as he escaped the scene and locked himself in his house where the body was discovered on Tuesday.

Police said a suspect was arrested by the community members over the murder and handed over to police for processing.

A jembe that was used in the murder was recovered at the scene, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts to address them. Police say up to eight cases are reported daily in a worrying trend.

Some of the cases are pending in court while others are unsolved, police said.

More personnel are being trained to focus on homicide cases.
