President William Ruto has strongly defended his leadership, insisting he is uniquely equipped to steer Kenya into a new era of transformation.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with leaders from Tharaka-Nithi County, the President dismissed his critics and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on key national priorities.

Ruto pointed to his extensive political experience, academic credentials, and deep understanding of the country's challenges as qualities that make him the right man for the job.

“I have enough experience. I have been an MP for 15 years and I have been Deputy President for 10 years — isn’t that experience enough?” he posed to the gathering.

Comparing his leadership style and strengths to those of his predecessors, Ruto declared, “I have the courage of Jomo [Kenyatta], the understanding of Moi, the education of Kibaki, and the plan we shared with Uhuru Kenyatta.”

He also highlighted his youth and humble beginnings as advantages that give him a unique perspective on the country’s needs.

“I am not very old. Don’t you think I am youthful?” he asked, drawing nods from the audience.

“I was born in the village, so I know the problems Kenyans are going through.”

The President said he has no excuse to fail, given the combination of experience, education, and opportunity before him.

“Why would I fail to deliver? I do not have an excuse, so I have to do the difficult job,” he said.

Ruto also brushed off ongoing criticism of his leadership style and policy decisions, saying he remains focused on the job at hand.

“That is why some people are making noise, but I do not have time for that,” he said.

“Kenya has never had the opportunity to be led by a person who has experience, education and knowledge about the country like me.”

The President reiterated that real transformation requires courageous and timely decision-making, arguing that Kenya has suffered in the past due to leaders who were reluctant to act decisively.

“Our country will only move forward if leaders make decisions that are not only necessary and bold, but also right,” he stated.

Ruto cited progress in several flagship areas, including Universal Health Coverage, affordable housing, accessible education, and a revitalised agricultural sector, noting that the impact of these policies is beginning to be felt across the country.

“I am pleased that our decisions in these areas are paying dividends to the citizens of our country,” he stated.
