The Ministry of Health has revoked internship postings for 348 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) students.

The Ministry of Health said the revocation comes after it was established that the students had not officially graduated and did not meet the eligibility criteria for internship placement.

In a statement on Monday, Health CS Aden Duale said the decision was made after careful consideration and in line with existing government policies.

These include the Public Service Commission Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service (2016) and the Ministry’s Internship Policy for Healthcare Professionals (2020).

"Internship placement is only available to individuals who have completed their studies, officially graduated, and obtained clearance from their regulatory body," Duale said.

He said the ministry is committed to fairness and integrity in the internship placement process and that priority must go to those who have completed their studies and secured the necessary regulatory clearance.

Under the current policy, the Public Service Commission provides 2,000 internship slots annually for BScN graduates.

These positions are subject to budgetary and planning frameworks, including inter-agency coordination and regulatory compliance.

"The Ministry of Health remains committed to providing opportunities for healthcare professionals to gain practical experience and develop their skills through our internship program,"  Duale added.

This follows days after the CS revoked internship placements for 306 Bachelor of Science Nursing pre-interns who were found unqualified in the ongoing review of the 2025/2026 cohort postings.

Duale said the affected individuals had not yet graduated and were therefore ineligible for posting. This comes after a review of the 2,098 pre-interns listed on July 1, 2025.

The ministry confirmed that 42 internship offers had already been revoked earlier, on July 21.

Universities most affected included Baraton University with 92 cases, Kirinyaga University with 46, and Pwani University with 48.

Some universities also had placements revoked. These include Kenyatta University (22 revoked), Daystar University (7), Methodist University (3) and UMMA University (2).

“The posting offers for 306 BSc nurses have been revoked, in addition to the 42 previously revoked on July 21, 2025,” Duale said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Ministry further announced that another 316 eligible BSc Nursing pre-interns had been left out of the original list by mistake.

The candidates had met all requirements and were cleared for internship placement.
