Worker killed after wall collapses at construction site in Westlands

A crime scene

A 25-year-old worker was killed after a perimeter wall collapsed and trapped him at a construction site along Rhapta Road, Westlands, Nairobi.

Eric Mwanzia was among dozens of workers at the site managed by a Chinese company when the incident happened on Thursday July 31.

He died on the spot, police said adding a second worker was rescued with multiple injuries and taken to hospital.

The perimeter wall collapsed due to ongoing excavation at the site, police and other workers said.

His lifeless body was retrieved by other workers who dug a heal of soil to save him in vain.

The second worker was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged, police said.

Police said they had informed officials from the National Construction Authority and the county government to join in the probe into the tragedy.

The site was declared a crime scene.

Meanwhile, a man died after a tree fell on him in Karen area, Nairobi.

Witnesses said three men were cutting trees using a power saw when one of them accidentally fell and trapped Kenneth Mbabu, 43 killing him.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon.

Police said they visited the scene and found the body lying next to a huge tree that had been cut.

His left leg was fractured following the fall.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

And police are investigating the lynching of a suspect in Lumakanda, Kakamega County over claims he was a thief.

Police discourage the ongoing trend of mob lynching of suspects.

The suspect was accused of stealing a cow. The cow was later recovered from his compound before an alarm was raised alerting a mob which stoned him to death.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid a campaign to address them.

Police have warned they will charge suspects arrested over the incidents with serious charges including murder.
