Harambee Stars received a timely morale boost Wednesday ahead of the weekend’s CHAN tournament kick-off, following a courtesy visit from Parliament Football Club (Bunge FC).
Led by team captain Otiende Amolo, the delegation of lawmakers paid a visit to the national team during a training session, offering encouragement, pledging support, and handing over a token of Sh1 million.
“As members of Bunge FC and Parliament, we are here to encourage the Stars and their technical bench ahead of this important assignment,” said Amolo.
“We are also here to affirm our commitment to supporting the team and ensuring that any outstanding matters affecting preparations are addressed.”
Amolo added that the MPs intend to attend all matches, both in Kenya and abroad, in solidarity with the national side.
The cash donation, he said, was a collective gesture from the Bunge FC members, demonstrating their belief in the team’s potential to shine on home soil.
Bumula MP Jack Wamboka reiterated the MPs’ full backing stating “We are here to ensure everything is in place as you prepare. Know that the country, and Parliament, is behind you.”
Other legislators also offered words of encouragement.
Migori Senator Eddie Okech urged the players to “chase your dreams, play with heart, and give your best on the pitch.”
Moses Kirima of Central Imenti who led the team in prayer, reminded the players that international scouts would be watching closely.
“This is your moment, put your best foot forward.”
Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe called on fans to support the team with pride and unity.
“You have come this far through sheer resilience. Fly the Kenyan flag high.”
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Harold Ndege thanked the MPs for their gesture, saying it would go a long way in motivating the players.
“The team is well-prepared and ready. We urge Kenyans to fill the stadiums and cheer them on,” said Ndege.
Harambee Stars captain Aboud Omar, speaking on behalf of the players, said the visit had lifted their spirits.
“This show of support means a lot to us. We are ready for Sunday and committed to making the country proud,” said Omar.
“We also encourage fans to turn out in large numbers and wear red to show their support.”
The team will don red jerseys for the tournament, and Kenyans have been encouraged to purchase official merchandise and rally behind the Stars as they begin their CHAN journey.
Stars will play its first match against DR Congo on Sunday.
