Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been installed as a Luo elder and given the name Odhiambo.

He was crowned in a ceremony held at Ong'er grounds in Nyatike Constituency in Migori County, where Kindiki presided over an economic empowerment forum.

After getting crowned, the DP was gifted with the ‘seat of power’, robed with Luo leadership regalia and handed a spear and shield to defend the country.

He was also given a Luo name, Odhiambo, in tandem with his peaceful demeanor.

During the event, Kindiki highlighted some of the projects the government is undertaking to improve the lives of the people of Migori and from across all the other counties.

He also called on political leaders to emulate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has always placed the interests of the country before his own.

His crowning comes a few months after President William Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart were also crowned Luo elders.

Their installation as Luo elders was during the Piny Luo cultural festival held in Siaya in January and was witnessed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The event, organized under the theme "Luo Unity in Diversity and in Diaspora," aims to bring together the Luo community from across the globe.
